Job Purpose
The Offsite Validation - Test Engineer is an entry-level engineering role responsible for supporting lab and field validation of crop harvesting equipment in actual and simulated operating conditions. This position assists with test execution, machine evaluations, data collection, issue documentation, and communication of findings to support product performance, reliability, durability, customer value, and development decision-making. Position is based out of New Holland, PA.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities Include:
- Support Validation Specialists and senior test engineers with execution of Integrated Validation Plan activities, including test preparation, machine operation, data collection, issue documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Assist with lab and field whole-vehicle evaluations on combine/header projects and contribute to the development of results, observations, and recommendations for product improvement.
- Evaluate operational performance of pre-production test vehicles, components, and subsystems under guidance from experienced engineers.
- Assist with instrumentation, data acquisition, and measurement activities involving noise, vibration, speed, torque, hydraulic pressure, hydraulic flow, and electrical/electronic sensors.
- Document machine performance, observed issues, parts installation/removal, test request completion, and other test activity in timely and accurate reports.
- Assist with troubleshooting machine, component, and system issues and support root-cause investigation in collaboration with experienced engineers and cross-functional team members.
- Support inspection, repair, rework, and updates of production and pre-production equipment to maintain test readiness and keep machines current with design changes.
- Work with platform, design, manufacturing, marketing, commercial, and test organizations to share observations and support product development activities.
- Interact professionally with dealers, farmers, customer sites, and CNH commercial representatives while supporting adequate test coverage, prototype confidentiality, and a positive company image.
- Follow applicable safety procedures, transport requirements, site expectations, and compliance practices when working around prototype machines, support vehicles, tools, and test equipment.
Experience Required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, agricultural engineering, technology, agriculture, or a related technical discipline.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical/electronic, software-controlled, or off-road vehicle systems.
- Ability to travel to domestic and international test locations for field-test assignments, including seasonal travel as required. (up to 50% travel in up to 4 week increments).
- Qualified or willing to become qualified to operate company vehicles and support equipment >26,000 GCWR (Willing/able to obtain CDL).
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Relevant experience in test, validation, product development, field evaluation, equipment operation, or a related technical environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document observations, issues, test activity, and follow-up items.
- Interest in harvesting equipment, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, off-road vehicles, or related mobile equipment.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle systems such as hydraulics, powertrain, electrical/electronic systems, controls, HVAC, or software-controlled functions.
- Familiarity with sensing, instrumentation, data acquisition, measurement techniques, or engineering test methods.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams while learning from experienced engineers, technicians, and product specialists.
- Basic understanding of CAN bus, machine controls, diagnostics, or troubleshooting methods is preferred.
- Interest in agriculture, harvesting technology, customer needs, machine performance, and product value.
- Ability to manage assigned tasks, ask questions when clarification is needed, recognize roadblocks, and escalate issues appropriately.
- Willingness to learn, take direction, solve problems, and develop technical judgment through hands-on field and lab validation experience.
- Ability to work independently at remote field locations.
Pay Transparency
The annual salary for this role is USD $63,750.00 - $97,750.00 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)
For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.
