Job Purpose

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and operation of the Sioux Falls Campus facilities. This role performs a wide range of building maintenance activities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general facility repairs to ensure a safe, comfortable, and productive work environment. The technician responds to maintenance requests, completes preventive maintenance tasks, assists with office reconfigurations and facility improvement projects, and coordinates with contractors and vendors as needed. Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently while providing excellent customer service to employees and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general building and facility maintenance throughout the Sioux Falls Campus.
  • Respond promptly to employee-submitted service tickets and maintenance requests while minimizing disruption to daily office operations.
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on building systems and equipment.
  • Perform routine HVAC maintenance, including filter replacement, equipment inspections, seasonal startup/shutdown activities, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and utilize the Building Automation System (BAS) to identify and respond to HVAC and building system issues.
  • Perform light construction and remodeling work, including drywall repair, patching, painting and other general building repairs.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs and troubleshooting, including clearing clogged drains and addressing minor leaks or plumbing issues.
  • Perform minor electrical and lighting maintenance within the employee's qualifications, including replacing light bulbs, ballasts, and remote lighting relays.
  • Repair and maintain doors, locks, hardware, and other building components.
  • Set up, disassemble, relocate, and reconfigure office cubicles, furniture, and workspaces.
  • Assist with office remodels, space reconfigurations, and facility improvement projects.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, digital tools, and other equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist with special projects and other Facilities initiatives.
  • Support and coordinate with outside contractors and vendors performing specialized maintenance, repairs, or installations.
  • Identify potential maintenance issues and take corrective action before they become larger problems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment logs, and work-order documentation.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, maintenance areas, and commonly used supplies.
  • Provide limited snow removal and grounds maintenance as needed to supplement contracted services.
  • Perform other Facilities-related duties as assigned.

Site Operations

  • Monday–Friday, first shift, working on-site at the Sioux Falls Campus.
  • Occasional after-hours or weekend support may be required for emergency maintenance situations.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance issues as needed to protect employees, property, and building systems.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all established safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment and maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
  • Work independently while communicating effectively with Facilities leadership and other team members.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors.

Experience Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, HVAC, construction, or a related skilled trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve routine building maintenance issues.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building construction.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize multiple maintenance requests.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to urgent maintenance issues and changing priorities.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment, including AHUs and RTUs.
  • Experience with light construction, remodeling, drywall, and painting.
  • Experience with minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Experience working in a commercial office, industrial, or corporate facility.
  • Experience working with outside contractors and service vendors.
  • Basic computer skills, Microsoft Office experience, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to read basic equipment manuals, diagrams, or maintenance documentation.

Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is USD $55,725.00 - $85,445.00 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.
