Job Purpose

Senior Software Engineer – Cloud Software, Scala, Big Data, API services

You will join a highly skilled software team in delivering innovative big data pipeline which provide data to various upstream consumers like mobile and web applications that make up CNH’s next generation digital platform. The digital platform will enable products that integrate with connected CNH tractors, sprayers and combines and enable wide range of farm management capabilities.

Primary responsibilities include working closely with technical team of data engineers, product management, and backend developers on the design, development, testing and deployment of our next generation applications and existing product lines. You will undertake all assigned tasks and responsibilities effectively and professionally in accordance with company, team, and customer expectations. 


A Senior Software Engineer is responsible for leading software development projects, designing and implementing solutions, and ensuring code quality. They also mentor junior engineers, contribute to technical strategy, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Their role involves a mix of technical expertise and leadership to drive the development of high-quality software

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver end-to-end cloud solutions (architecture, security, scalability, cost optimization) on cloud computing platform (Azure, AWS)

  • Design, develop, test, and document high-quality software and data pipelines for parsing, enrichment, batch processing, and real-time streaming that meet functional, performance, and reliability requirements.

  • Architect and implement complex real-time streaming and visualization solutions; prototype rapidly to validate feasibility.

  • Define technical approaches, decomposition, and tasking for projects; estimate effort and drive execution to meet delivery timelines.

  • Work with product management, data engineers, backend teams, and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust implementation plans.

  • Own and improve CI/CD, deployment, and release processes; participate in build automation, version control, and environment configuration (including containerization and orchestration).

  • Troubleshoot production issues with internal teams and external customers; coordinate deployments and rollouts.

  • Author and maintain infrastructure-as-code 

  • Define and implement observability: logging, metrics, distributed tracing, SLOs/SLIs, alerting, and runbooks.

  • Perform incident response and postmortems.

  • Produce and maintain design documentation, runbooks, and operational guides.

  • Contribute to development process improvements, coding standards, and the quality management system (ISO).

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance; may lead project-level technical efforts and review/approve designs from lower-level engineers.

  • Support quoting / RFQ tasks as needed, and participate in cross-functional initiatives.

  • Maintain a safe, clean workspace and demonstrate support for company culture.

Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years relevant industry software engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Broad knowledge across the engineering discipline; assignments are broad and require creativity and ingenuity.

  • Capable of defining appropriate approaches and solutions; sets critical project criteria and drives completion.

  • Exercises independent judgment with limited supervision; may act as project lead and guide junior engineers.

  • Contributes above-average impact to team deliverables and may influence strategic technical decisions.

  • 5+ years Scala application design, development, and testing experience; strong functional programming fundamentals.

  • Experience with real-time streaming and batch processing (Apache Spark, Apache Flink or equivalent).

  • Proven cloud architecture skills: networking, identity, security, cost controls, autoscaling, and DR strategies.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems: partitioning, sharding, memory management, and filesystem concepts.

  • Experience building microservices and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm)

  • Familiarity with Akka / Pekko toolkits, concurrency, and asynchronous programming.

  • Hands-on IaC experience (Terraform) 

  • Experience with CI/CD, Git, Maven/Gradle, and automated testing frameworks (ScalaTest, JUnit, Mockito).
  • Deep observability tools experience (Datadog, Azure Monitor/Application Insights, ELK, OpenTelemetry).

  • Experience with RESTful APIs, OAuth2/JWT, OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman.

  • Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, design patterns.

  • Proficiency in Java or Python in addition to Scala.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, problem solving, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale telemetry / IoT data 

  • Experience with geospatial data and geographic information systems
  • Prior experience in agriculture, telematics, or precision farming domains.

  • Master’s degree or higher, or demonstrated technical publications or presentations.

Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is $106,725 - $163,645 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.
