Job Purpose

Responsible for completing electrical type lab activities in support of Driveline, Hydraulic, and Vehicle lab test operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and teardown of electrical instrumentation, automation, and data acquisition equipment on lab test stands.
  • Construct/modify electrical cables and wiring harnesses based on engineering sketches or drawings.
  • Build and wire electrical enclosures for use in test cell monitor, record, or control applications.
  • Install and maintain test cell wiring and signal conditioning equipment.
  • Computer data entry of lab instrumentation device calibration information into database.
  • Communicate any assembly/fit-up issues identified during assembly of equipment to appropriate engineers, along with any proposals for improvement.
  • Operate basic shop power tools, such as bandsaw, drill press, grinders, for custom modification or making of parts.
  • Monitor parts/material inventory and report needs to leadership.
  • Interface effectively with support groups and customers, such as Design Engineering and Test Engineering.   
  • Communicate information with others effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Experience Required

  • Ability to work independently and recognize issues that need to be escalated.
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Available to travel (<10%), including internationally if required.
  • Ability to conduct technical hands-on and analytical tasks with little supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate with internal and external collaborators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 yr. electrical related technical degree with minimum 3 years work related experience.
  • Solid hands-on mechanical skills and experience a must.
  • Good soldering skills, including wires, splices, and PCBs
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical control systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial control panel wiring practices including 3-phase motor control.
  • Experience programming and/or troubleshooting industrial controllers, embedded controllers, or data acquisition systems is a plus.
