Job Purpose

Large Tractor Hydraulics Lead Engineer to lead the design, development, and performance optimization of hydraulic systems for large agricultural tractors. This position serves as the technical authority for hydraulic architecture and includes leading a team of hydraulic engineers, providing direction, mentorship, and oversight on key technical decisions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the hydraulic system architecture and design for high‑horsepower tractors.
  • Provide technical leadership to a team of hydraulic engineers, including task prioritization, design guidance, and coaching.
  • Review and approve team designs, analyses, test plans, and documentation to ensure engineering excellence.
  • Develop specifications for major hydraulic subsystems based on requirements 
  • Conduct hydraulic sizing, modeling, and simulation (pressure, flow, thermal cycles) for demanding field use.
  • Oversee validation testing, durability evaluation, and field performance verification.
  • Guide integration of electro‑hydraulic controls and flow-sharing features.
  • Collaborate with precision ag and ISOBUS teams to ensure compatibility with smart implements and high-demand auxiliary functions.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis for hydraulic failures, performance deviations, or thermal management concerns.
  • Drive DFMEA creation, DVP\&R planning, design reviews, and engineering documentation.
  • Support supplier technical discussions, component qualifications, and cost/value optimization.
  • Ensure team designs meet agricultural durability, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Fluid Power Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 7+ years of hydraulic system design experience for mobile or off‑highway equipment, ideally large agricultural tractors.
  • Experience with mobile hydraulic components and systems
    • Load-sensing pumps
    • High-flow hydraulic circuits

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with simulation tools (AMESim, Simscape, Automation Studio, etc.).
  • Experience with CAD and engineering documentation tools (Creo, SolidWorks).
  • Solid understanding of DFMEA, DVP\&R, and system engineering practices.
  • Experience with project management
  • Strong field and lab troubleshooting capability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in managing engineering teams
  • Knowledge of Ag equipment
  • Experience integrating hydraulics with precision agriculture systems and ISOBUS/ISO 11783.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic requirements for large implements (planters, tillage tools, air seeders).
  • Background in hydraulic thermal management for high-horsepower tractors.
  • Familiarity with advanced electro‑hydraulic control strategies.

Pay Transparency

​The annual salary for this role is USD $119,000.00 - $180,000.00 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)
