Job Purpose

The Materials Engineer - Metals will be responsible for supporting CNH product development, product testing and product quality tasks on day-to-day basis from materials point of view under the direction of Materials Engineering Manager. This position requires strong communication skills, ability to make decisions and resolve tasks on hand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Material Failure Analysis (MFA) on ferrous and non-ferrous components; target root cause and speed the solution of critical design or manufacturing problem areas.
  • Produce detailed MFA report, outlining evaluation performed, determined root cause followed with clear recommendation to address the issue.
  • Interact with product design and test engineers during development and testing phase for new program launches to ensure robust CNH component designs and support meeting program deadline.
  • Interact and support quality and purchasing groups within the company to resolve field issues, warranty claims and cost reduction projects from materials point of view.
  • Interact with CNH suppliers to resolve material related issues and concerns.
  • Work in materials lab but not limited to sectioning, preparing metallurgical samples, microstructure evaluation, hardness measurements and operating scanning electron microscope for detailed fractography analysis.
  • Participate in CNH Materials Standards meetings. 
  • Provide technical input for new or updated material and process standards.
  • Participate in DFMEA, PFMEA and technical reviews with CNH Engineering and CNH suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain welding specifications aligned with AWS and ISO standards.
  • Support welding procedure qualification, quality requirements, and manufacturing issue resolution.

Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering or other engineering with focus on metals. 
  • 3+ years of experience in materials engineering field; with focus on Metallurgical Failure Analysis of power transmitting and structural components. 
  • Should have hands on experience with metallurgical laboratory testing including metallography, hardness testing, mechanical testing, macrophotography and scanning electron microscopy.
  • Application knowledge about material conditions, heat treatment, and post finish process selection such as grinding, plating, shot peening, welding among other, for critically stressed components required; additional knowledge on off-highway machinery components preferred. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Materials Science Engineering Highly Preferred.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), International Welding Engineer (IWE), European Welding Engineer (EWE), or equivalent recognized certification Highly Preferred.
  • Experience with International Specification is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on attention to details
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of internal customers at all levels within the company. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision. 
  • Leadership skills that will facilitate effective problem resolution in a team environment. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong time and priority management
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to set clear objectives and deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products – Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is $74,625 - $114,425 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.
