Job Purpose

This position represents a hands-on systems engineering capability within the Construction Equipment team. It is intended for an early- to mid-career engineer who can connect machine behavior, control logic, embedded software and calibration. The engineer will own assigned vehicle features from requirement clarification through implementation, vehicle validation and issue resolution.

The replacement should preserve strong product and field knowledge while strengthening concise communication, cross-functional cooperation and shared ownership of results. The role does not require a senior or lead profile; it requires technical autonomy on assigned work and the maturity to coordinate effectively across engineering interfaces.

Develop and integrate robust vehicle features that meet product, safety, homologation and performance requirements. The engineer combines system thinking with practical machine understanding, uses model-based development to implement control logic, and defines calibrations that deliver consistent behavior across operating conditions and machine variants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate operator needs and observed machine behavior into clear system requirements, interfaces and acceptance criteria.
  • Design control strategies, system architectures and algorithms for electro-hydraulic, driveline and vehicle functions in continuous and discrete domains.
  • Develop, review, debug and unit-test models in MATLAB and Simulink, and generate embedded production code with Embedded Coder in accordance with the applicable development process.
  • Define calibration concepts, parameters, limits and datasets; tune them on the machine and document the rationale for key choices and trade-offs.
  • Integrate software, electronic controllers, sensors, actuators and supplier components, managing interfaces between dependent subsystems.
  • Diagnose system and software issues using data, logs, measurements and direct observation of machine behavior; drive problems through containment, root cause and verified closure.
  • Create and maintain specifications, diagrams, traceability and engineering evidence; contribute actively to design reviews, DFMEA, risk assessments and release-readiness discussions.
  • Plan and support model, software, HIL and vehicle validation, including test preparation, execution, result review and corrective actions.
  • Support machine operation and field or proving-ground tests after the required training and authorization.
  • Promote reusable solutions and calibration practices across platforms, manage assigned priorities, and provide early visibility of delivery risks and dependencies.

Experience Required

Master's degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Control, Computer or a related engineering discipline.

· Approximately two to five years of hands-on experience in system, control or embedded software development. Equivalent relevant project experience may be considered.

· Practical exposure to Construction Equipment, agricultural, off-highway, automotive, heavy-equipment or a comparable vehicle domain.

· Working experience with MATLAB, Simulink and Embedded Coder for model-based design, simulation, code generation, debugging and unit testing.

· Experience defining and tuning control parameters and calibration datasets, with the ability to explain the relationship between a calibration change and machine behavior.

· Working knowledge of vehicle architectures, sensors, actuators and protocols such as CAN and LIN, together with system-level debugging skills.

· Ability to operate relevant CE machines safely, or demonstrable capability and willingness to obtain the required training and authorization quickly.

· Professional written and spoken English, with availability to travel when required by assigned programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Detailed knowledge of CE machine operation, operator workflows and typical electro-hydraulic or driveline behaviors.

· Hands-on use of measurement, calibration and vehicle-network tools.

· Development or debugging of embedded C or C++ for electronic controllers, and experience with MIL, SIL or HIL testing.

· Requirements management and traceability within an ALM environment.

· Supplier integration, functional safety, homologation or engineering change management experience.

· System identification, observer design, sensor fusion, robust control or optimal control knowledge.

Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is from Eur 35.100,00 to 53820,00 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.

Ways of working

Ways of working

The role requires disciplined collaboration because feature performance depends on several teams and subsystems. The following behaviors are part of the position and should be assessed during selection and onboarding.

· Communicates in a concise, timely and audience-appropriate way. Routine updates state the current status, the evidence, the decision or risk, and the next action with its owner and timing.

· Raises missing inputs, blockers and changes early enough for the team to act, rather than waiting until a milestone or review exposes them.

· Uses clear responsibility boundaries to coordinate work, not to stop at an interface. When an issue crosses functions, the engineer helps connect the right people and follows the system outcome to closure.

· Shares technical context and machine knowledge, asks for review when needed, and gives constructive feedback that helps colleagues progress.

· Handles disagreement through requirements, test evidence and transparent trade-offs; records decisions and supports their execution.

· Takes end-to-end ownership of assigned features while keeping stakeholders informed at the level of detail they need.
