Job Purpose
The Engine & Driveline Cooling Systems Engineer is the system-level technical owner for engine, transmission, hydraulic, charge-air, and under-hood thermal-management systems.
This role defines the system architecture, modules, requirements, interfaces, performance targets, technical risks, and verification strategy. The engineer drives the system from concept through design, release, verification, validation, production launch, and industrialization.
A key responsibility is establishing modular cooling solutions that reuse or scale heat exchangers, fans, drives, pumps, controls, structures, and interfaces across 4WD/CCH tractors and Front/Rear Boom Sprayers while meeting vehicle performance and program quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Own cooling and thermal-management system definitions, architectures, Theory of Operation, boundary diagrams, module definitions, and interface documentation.
- Define the long-term modular strategy for cooling packages, heat exchangers, fans, pumps, controls, sensors, structures, and airflow-management features.
- Translate customer, vehicle, regulatory, and program needs into measurable thermal-system requirements.
- Allocate requirements to heat exchangers, fans, pumps, valves, ducting, controls, sensors, software, and vehicle structures.
- Define performance targets for engine, transmission, hydraulic, charge-air, fuel, electrical-component, and under-hood thermal management.
- Define operating conditions for heat rejection, warm-up, extreme ambient temperatures, debris loading, altitude, vehicle loading, and stationary operation.
- Design and integrate interfaces with engine installation, hydraulics, driveline, electrical systems, chassis, body, cab, software, and vehicle power management.
- Lead system trade-offs involving cooling capacity, airflow, fan power, fuel efficiency, noise, packaging, debris management, serviceability, cost, and timing.
- Lead the cooling and thermal-management DFMEA and drive overheating, airflow, contamination, leakage, and control-system risks to closure.
- Ensure compliance with functional safety, industry safety standards, and cybersecurity requirements.
- Direct component engineers, suppliers, simulation teams, software teams, manufacturing, and validation organizations.
- Develop and execute scalable CFD, thermal simulation, physical testing, verification, validation, and correlation plans.
- Drive design reviews, prototype builds, calibration, release planning, Development Completion, production readiness, and industrialization.
- Lead root-cause resolution for cooling and thermal-performance issues during development, production, and post-launch operation.
