Job Purpose
Are you confident having difficult conversations, negotiating positive outcomes, and taking ownership of a portfolio from start to finish?
We're looking for a proactive and customer-focused Collections Officer to join our team based in St Marys, NSW. This is a diverse role where you'll manage a portfolio of commercial retail loan accounts, working directly with customers to resolve overdue balances while balancing commercial outcomes with a professional and empathetic approach.
You'll play an important role in protecting our portfolio, supporting customers through challenging situations, and collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
As a Collections Officer, you'll take end-to-end responsibility for your assigned portfolio and work proactively to manage accounts in arrears.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contacting customers via phone, email, and written correspondence regarding overdue loan accounts
- Managing and monitoring a portfolio of retail finance customers in line with portfolio guidelines
- Negotiating payment arrangements and helping customers find suitable solutions
- Having challenging conversations while maintaining a professional, empathetic, and customer-focused approach
- Maintaining accurate customer records and documentation within internal systems
- Taking ownership of collection activities from initial contact through to resolution
- Assisting with the management and disposal of repossessed assets, including obtaining valuations and supporting sale processes
- Liaising with dealers, legal representatives, insolvency practitioners, auction houses, and other external stakeholders as required
- Initiating legal action where necessary and supporting recovery processes
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes and drive operational efficiencies
- Working towards individual and team performance targets and KPIs
Experience Required
We're looking for someone who is resilient, commercially minded, and enjoys problem-solving while building positive relationships with customers and stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- At least 2 years' experience in commercial collections, credit, finance, banking, customer service, or a related field
- Strong customer service, negotiation, and communication skills
- Confidence handling challenging customer conversations and resolving complex situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a wider team
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills
- Experience working with finance systems and Microsoft Office applications
