Job Purpose

We wish to recruit undergraduate students to work in the following discipline at our Basildon head office and plant, for 12 months, starting in July - August 2026:

 

Vehicle and Structural Test

The objective of this placement is the development of New Holland and Case IH tractors to meet vehicle engineering targets for performance, quality, and reliability. This placement involves supporting the Product Validation team in vehicle, component and structural testing, analysis of development vehicles using on-highway/off-highway industry standard testing methods and data acquisition systems.

Outcomes from this placement will include providing an excellent understanding of industry standard vehicle and component testing theory and practice; practical knowledge of test equipment; along with test and analysis techniques; team and communication skills; and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of vehicles, components, and subassemblies for testing
  • Installation of required instrumentation
  • Setup and running of lab or test track-based testing
  • Analysis and interpretation of acquired test data
  • Investigation and reporting of concerns and test results
  • Assisting with workshop activities, prototype builds and parts identification.
  • Testing activities may include but are not limited to:
    • Full vehicle durability testing
    • Fatigue testing of major tractor structural components
    • Functional and durability test of ancillary components
    • Testing of hitches, drawbars, and linkages
    • Exhaust systems
    • Strain gauge application
    • Measurement of temperatures, pressures, and other parameters
    • Calibration of test systems and transducers
    • Vehicle functional measurements
    • Brakes and hydraulics testing
    • PTO performance
    • Noise and vibration measurement

Experience Required

  • Candidates should be enthusiastic and possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates should be undertaking a mechanical / automotive / agricultural engineering or related degree.
  • Prior experience with agricultural equipment beneficial but not essential
  • Prior experience with using basic workshop tools beneficial but not essential
  • Computer literacy to a high standard.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • All positions may require travel to dealers, suppliers, or test sites and therefore some flexibility in working hours is required.
